IMPORTANT UPDATE- APRIL 19, 2010- The federal government closed registrations for new home energy audits under the ecoENERGY program (March 31, 2010), but Ontario clients are still eligible to do audits and receive the Provincial pre-retrofit $150 subsidy and up $5000 in post-retrofit grants.
The time it takes to complete the ecoENERGY process can vary depending on how long you require to make renovations to upgrade your home.
- Provincial and Federal government grants can take from 3-6 months to receive.
- ecoENERGY customers have until March 31, 2011 to complete work on their homes. However, you can call Green Venture back at any time before the time limit and ask for your second audit.
- Please note that extra charges apply to homes over 3000 square feet in size.
First Visit (approx 2 hours)
- Our Certified Energy Advisors thoroughly evaluate your house from basement to attic
- We check your insulation, windows, furnace, and hot water tank
- A Blower Door is used to test for leaks in the outer shell of your home
- Air exchanges per hour is measured to help indicate indoor air quality
- We use building science in our evaluation and know that every house has its own complex system of inter-related parts
- We get to the bottom of your home comfort problems
Your Report
- Your Certified Energy Advisor prepares a detailed, customized report based on the evaluation from the first visit
- The report gives you various recommendations for improvements that you can choose from
You will receive the report within two weeks
Improvements
- You can choose the improvements from your report based on what suits your family best and your budget
- You have until March 31, 2011 to complete the improvements
Follow Up Visit
- A Certified Energy Advisor will come for a follow up evaluation after you have completed your improvements
- If you quality for a grant, your advisor and Green Venture staff will submit an application to Natural Resources Canada
- The ecoENERGY process timeline can vary, depending on your renovation schedule. ecoENERGY customers have UP TO 18 months to complete work on their homes. However, you can call Green Venture back at any time before the 18 month time limit and ask for your final audit.
Grants
- You could qualify for up to $10,000 in grants (up to $5000 from the Government of Canada and up to $5000 from the Province of Ontario) depending on the improvements you made

The ecoENERGY Retrofit service is delivered by Green Venture under agreement with Green Communities Canada.
